The guide and driver will meet you in the hotel lobby in Tbilisi to begin your journey to Kakheti, the homeland of winemaking. From Tbilisi, the scenic serpentine road – the Gombori Pass (100 km, 2 hours) – leads to the region's capital, Telavi. In Telavi, you will see the monument to King Irakli II, famously featured in the legendary film Mimino. Take a walk through the historic part of the city.
Next, you'll depart for Tsinandali, where the residence of Prince Chavchavadze, father-in-law of the Russian writer Alexander Griboedov, is located. The estate boasts a magnificent English park and a collection of the oldest wines in Georgia: the cellars of Tsinandali house wines dating back to the 1840s.
Continue the journey to Sighnaghi, a town surrounded by a fortress wall with 23 towers, which was once one of the most important trading points on the Great Silk Road. You’ll stroll through the town before heading back to Tbilisi. If time allows, a stop will be made at the Bodbe Monastery complex, where, according to legend, St. Nino, who brought Christianity to Georgia in the 4th century, is buried. Since 1889, by the decree of Emperor Alexander III, Bodbe has functioned as a convent.
