At 8:00 AM, our driver and guide will meet you at your hotel in Tbilisi to head southwest to Georgia. The first stop will be the main attraction of the city of Akhaltsikhe – the Rabati Fortress. This ancient stone fortress, renovated in the early 21st century, is built on a small hill by the banks of the Potskhovari River. Within the walls of Rabati, you will find a church, mosque, synagogue, a small park, a historical museum, various shops, a hotel, and a registry office.
Next, we will head to Vardzia. Along the way, we will make a brief stop at the Khertvisi Fortress, which was known as one of the region's strategic citadels as early as the 10th century. Vardzia is a unique cave city, built in the 12th-13th centuries, where an ancient monastery and one of the few 12th-century frescoes depicting Queen Tamar have been preserved to this day. You will explore the multi-story complex of ancient caves, with streets, tunnels, and stairs leading to monasteries, churches, fortresses, baths, houses, libraries, and more.
After the tour, we will return to Tbilisi.
